I have always admired JEMS Architekci for their moderation and reserve, two qualities sorely lacking in Poland. The ICC, however, is the first building designed by them that I would love to talk about in my lectures, and wish I had it in my portfolio, like most architects in KWK Promes, probably.

With its simple, clear and explicit form, the building of the centre was integrated into public space by ensuring links along the important axis that connects the “honorary” plaza in front of the Spodek to the oldest, historic part of town – Bogucice.

Today, I feel proud that my Silesia, my Katowice, boasts a congress centre no less functional than similar European facilities. A very rare advantage of this place is also its very convenient location in the centre of the city and the excellent connections it has with the airport and the motorway.
